简介

Katie Lee is a senior patent attorney in the Chemicals & Pharma/Bio Practice at Kim & Chang. She specializes in biotechnology and pharmacology, and regularly represents multinational clients in various industries, including pharmaceuticals, biotech, chemicals, and semiconductor materials. She is particularly known for her expertise and experience in advising US and European clients.

 

For decades, she has been involved in numerous patent trials and litigations, mainly in the pharmaceuticals and biotechnology sectors. In addition, she has drafted numerous patent applications and has counseled many domestic biotech venture companies on their issues relating to IP portfolio management. She has also been advising on patent work under the Patent-Approval Linkage System and under the Fair Trade Law for pharmaceuticals and biotech companies. 

 

Industry Contributions
She also is often invited to speak internationally and domestically. She has presented on the “Patent Protection Strategies for Biosimilar Products” at the “Successful Business Strategies Through Analysis of Biosimilar Risk and Profitability Seminar” held by Educational Center for Future Technology in 2010. In November 2001, she presented on the Korean patent protection for biotech-related inventions at the Korea-US Forum on New Drug Discoveries, held in the United States. She has co-authored several publications. They include: “Revisions to the Korean Patent Act to be Implemented Based on Patent Law Treaty,” WIPR – Latest Developments, BNA (2011); and “Chapter 6: Intellectual Property Regime of Korea,” Intellectual Property Protection in Asia (2010). She is the author of the following publications: “Experimental Use Exemption in Clinical Trials,” Journal of Intellectual Property, Spring (2001); and “A Study on the Active Site of Glucoamylase from Aspergillus Shirousami,” Korean Journal of Biochemistry (1988).

 

Education / Bar Membership
Ms. Lee received her LL.M. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1998, and she completed her coursework from Sungkyunkwan University School of Law in 1996. She received a master’s degree in biochemistry from Seoul National University Graduate School of Natural Science in 1988, and holds a bachelor’s degree from Seoul National University College of Natural Science (1986).

 

She is admitted to the Korean Patent Bar. She is fluent in Korean and in English.
