Sanghyun Lee joined Kim & Chang in 2005 and he is a patent attorney in the firm's Electrical/Software Practice.
He received two B.E. degrees in Computer Science and Biology (2001) from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and was admitted to the Korean Patent Bar in 2003. He also received LL.M. from the University of Southern California (USC), School of Law in 2012. Prior to joining the firm, he worked at FirstLaw P.C. (2004-2005) as a patent attorney and Bitek System Inc. (2001-2004) as a software developer.
Mr. Lee's practice focuses on a wide range of intellectual property (IP) matters including patent prosecution, analysis, opinion, and litigation for various types of clients, including individuals, universities, start-ups, and major multinational companies, in numerous technical areas including e-commerce, business methods, computer hardware and software, and computational biology. He also provides strategic advice to clients, including patent mapping, freedom-to-operate (FTO) clearance, and R&D strategy formulation. He was also involved in patent acquisition and licensing deals, software copyright disputes, open source software license compliance, trade secret misuse cases, and other legal cases involving software issues. His experience includes not only traditional computer science technologies but also most recent technologies, such as metaverse, blockchain, and NFTs.
He is a member of the Korean Patent Attorneys Association.
