On April 28, 2021, Kim & Chang’s Intellectual Property Practice hosted a webinar on “Tackling Online Counterfeits in Korea.” 

Angela Kim (US Attorney) moderated the session, and Jason J. Lee (US Attorney), Clare Ryeojin Park (Australian Trademark Attorney), and Shin-Taek Kang (Senior Trademark Paralegal) presented on the rapid growth of online counterfeit sales, which increased significantly due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the ensuing responses and specific measures undertaken by the government authorities and e-commerce sites.  During the webinar, speakers also shared strategies against online counterfeit sales along with examples of successful cases.

The webinar received positive responses and feedback from various overseas IP practitioners as a valuable opportunity to increase their understanding of the current condition of online counterfeit sales in Korea and the potential countermeasures against them. More of such webinars on diverse topics will follow for further discussions and networking opportunities.
