Overview

Cy C. Kim is a senior foreign attorney in Kim & Chang's Intellectual Property Practice.

He is also a key member of the firm's chemical/pharma, product liability, and export control practices. 

Mr. Kim focuses his practice primarily on intellectual property disputes, chemical & environmental regulations, product liability/consumer claims, and export control regulations. In particular, he advises a wide range of clients in the enforcement of their patents before the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), the district courts, the Patent Court and the Supreme Court, especially giving counsel to those in the semiconductor materials market. Mr. Kim also regularly advises companies on chemical and environmental regulations in Korea, including on K-REACH, Chemicals Control Act, OSHA and biocides regulations.

Prior to joining Kim & Chang, Mr. Kim worked on many complex litigation cases involving some of Silicon Valley's largest companies. He served as the general counsel for Silicon Valley Learning Institute and LiveWord, Inc., and advised on matters related to IP protection, corporate structure, licensing agreements and international business transactions.

Mr. Kim is regularly invited to speak at international conferences and webinars on chemical regulations and global patent enforcement strategies. He has also co-authored several articles/chapters for various global legal publications, including "The Intellectual Property Review – Korea" (Law Business Research) from 2012 to 2015, and "Global Patent Litigation: How and Where to Win – Korea Chapter" from 2012 to 2018.

He graduated from Duke University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1997, and worked at Stanford University as a research assistant before enrolling at Santa Clara University School of Law, where he earned an International High Tech Certificate and his law degree in 2003.

Mr. Kim is admitted to the California bar, and is registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
