Overview

Peter K. Paik is a senior foreign attorney in the firm's IP Department, International Trade and Customs Department, and Environment Practice Department.  

Mr. Paik has extensive experience in patent, trade secret and copyright litigation, licensing and patent prosecution in various technical areas, including the semiconductor, electronics, chemical and software industries.  His litigation cases include complex patent and trade secret cases involving multiple jurisdictions (e.g., Korea, the United States, Europe and China).  Mr. Paik also has advised multinational clients in a wide range of criminal defense matters, regulatory/environmental issues, and government relations.  His licensing experience includes negotiations (some involving standard essential patents), software licensing, transaction structuring, and joint development.

Mr. Paik regularly advises clients on customs and international trade compliance matters, tariff classification, valuation, country of origin verification and other customs issues arising under Korea’s free trade agreements.  Mr. Paik has also assisted clients in assessing their customs internal control procedures (including developing customs compliance programs).

Before beginning his legal career, he worked at ExxonMobil as a chemical engineer, bringing his industry knowledge and expertise to his practice.  Mr. Paik was named as “IP Star” (2014-2016) and "Patent Star" (2017) in Korea by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP).
